Launch of the Ruzzola

La ruzzola also called rotola, rota, ruzzica.

It has very ancient origins as evidenced by many municipal statutes of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries of many Italian regions. It is played mainly in teams, traveling on the road; the game tool is a wooden disc with a diameter of cm. 13 approximately and weighing approximately 700 grams. In order to be able to throw it with greater power and therefore cover the greatest possible distance, the tumbler is wrapped with a string which, fixed to the index finger of the hand, unrolls at the moment of the launch, imparting a powerful rotation force.

The team or single player wins the race by covering the greatest possible distance with a predetermined number of throws (usually 10), starting from the same starting point; or who first wins 5 games. A game consists of 3 throws, at the end of the third throw the team that is further ahead wins a game.
