The game of bowls has an ancient tradition: in Turkey have been found some stone balls ancestor of the current bowls, dating back to about 7000 BC; even in Egypt were found similar objects in a tomb, dating back to the second millennium BC.
The game continued to evolve until the current version in Italy, and then spread around the world thanks to Italian emigrants.
Today the game is divided into two large types, place as many bowls near the ball or hit in a given time as many mandatory targets
Bowls are currently very popular in Italy, Slovenia (as balinanje), Croatia (boćanje), South America (bochas), France (boules, pétanque), Australia and North America.
